The Marwa Movement, the campaign organisation of Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, has promised to make job creation, poverty alleviation and economic growth its cardinal focus, if Marwa is elected the president of Nigeria in 2007.

The group, also said it would focus on qualitative education, food security, provision of potable water and affordable health services to the people. It also promised to continue the war against fake and adulterated drugs in the country.

The group's position was contained in a statement made available to our correspondent on Thursday, following a mini- summit held on Wednesday.

The statement by the organisation's Media and Publicity Director, Mr Bola Bolawole, said the group resolved that if elected, Marwa would tackle the problem of electricity supply, the Niger Delta crisis and security of lives and property.

It reads, ' The summit deliberated on the importance of research and development as well as of information computer technology in national development and concluded that both would be given the place of pride in a Marwa presidency.

'To tackle rural-urban migration and its attendant political, social and economic disequilibrium, the summit adopted a robust development programme that would provide infrastructure and harness the abundant resources available in the rural areas for the benefit of the rural dwellers as well as for national development.

' It also discussed issues concerning transportation, the privatisation programme and the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy, the diversification of the Nigerian economy and also the economic programmes of the President Olusegun Obasanjo, which was adopted."
